Buck Booster Size Guide
This formula will determine which size buck
booster you need for your tanning bed. We
strongly urge you to have an electrician
help you with the tanning bed buck booster.
Spas and More is not responsibile for any
accidents or wrong information obtained from
using this formula. Tanning bed buck boosters
are non returnable but are covered by the
manufacturers warranty.
First determine the kva rating of the tanning
bed. To do this find the tanning bed manufacturers
label on the back or side of your tanning
bedbed. It should have an amp ( A ) rating
listed. Take the ( A ) amp and multiply it
by the ( V ) voltage listed on the bed label.
Divide this number by 1000. This number is
the kva rating for the tanning bed. Next
take a voltage reading with a digital volt
meter of the line or wall voltage where the
tanning bed is to be installed. This is called
the high voltage in the equation below. Next
subtract the tanning bed voltage (the V #
on the bed label ) from the high voltage.
Take that number and divide it by the high
voltage. Multiply this number by the kva
and the result is the size of tanning bed
buck booster you need. Always round up to
the next highest size rather than down. See
the example below.
Bed label says 220 V and 20 A
The line voltage is measured and determined
to be 242 V.
The kva is A x V /1000 = kva so 220 x 20
= 4400 divided by 1000=4.4 kva
Next high voltage minus low voltage is 242-220=
22 divided by high voltage =0.0909
Take the .0909 x 4.4 ( kva ) =.39996
We round this number up to .5 so a .5 kva
buck booster would be correct for the bed.
High voltage is the voltage at the wall
Low voltage is the bed voltage from the label
on the bed
A= amps from label on bed
V= volts from label on bed
kva=A multplied by V, divided by 1000
This is a general sizing rule:
20 Amp beds will use a .5 kva tanning bed
buck booster
30 Amp beds will use the 1.0 kva tanning
bed buck booster
