Overview

Please look at the part # on your old fitting
These measure larger than what they are called
The nut is generally what cracks and causes leaks
The 2-1/2 is actually 4 inches OD, part # 89-371-1017
The 2 is 3-5/16 OD, part # 89-371-1013
And the 1.5 is 2-7/8 OD part# 89-371-1009
1-1/2" uni nut fittings measure 2-7/16" at threads
2" uni nut fittings measure 3-1/16" at threads
2-1/2" uni nut fittings measure 3-11/16" at threads
Most fittings measure larger than the size they are called
The nut is what usually cracks
The retainer has a split in from the factory
Aquatemp Products Heater Uni-Nut
You will need a nut and a retainer for complete assembly.
It is a patented design to end leaking split nuts on heaters.
The Uni-Nut is a one-piece nut that can be tightened by hand and changed in the field by removing a color coded retainer.
The black retainer is generally used on 1-5/8" tube while blue retainers are used on 5.5kW heaters.
Red retainers usually denote heaters of other wattages.
Although there may sometimes be exceptions, the Uni-Nut is generally not a replacement for split nuts due to different flange sizes.
